The merit is awarded to university educators who have developed a particularly high quality of teaching over time by always focusing on students´ learning by researching their own profession, and by actively collaborating with colleagues to increase the quality of teaching. ViSmedia´s Principal Investigator got the award at a ceremonial event given by the Faculty of Social Sciences at Solstrand Hotel in Os on September 10, 2019.

The ETP merit system is part of the University´s strategy to further improve the quality of education, and to signal that in a higher education institution teaching is just as important as research.

Collaborative and experimental

“Experimenting with student-researcher-collaboration across disciplines is particularly fun,” Gynnild said. She emphasized that the ViSmedia project has served as a valuable mind-opener for innovative teaching, and identified her own teaching philosophy as an interdisciplinary, collaborative and experimental learning approach.

The Award Committee stated that Professor Astrid Gynnild has demonstrated a scholarly approach to students´ learning applying practices rooted in educational principles in her teaching, and she has also managed to apply scholarly principles to evaluate her own teaching process and to further develop these processes in collaboration with her colleagues.

Professors Astrid Gynnild, Jens Kjeldsen, Frode Meland og Lise Rakner alle was granted the Excellent Teaching Practitioner.
